I had quite a cold this weekend. I was in bed all day Sunday. I couldn't believe how much I could sleep. I'd have enough energy to get up and sit in the living room for a few minutes and then I'd head right back to bed. At one point I took a shower, but put my PJ's back on and went straight back to bed.
Around 6:00pm on Sunday night I was still laying in bed and Brandon and Cayden came in the room to say hi. Cayden is a busy little guy and was playing all over. He was heading back out of the room when he tripped and fell into the dresser. He started crying, because of course it hurts to fall. When Brandon picked him up he said, "Oh Lyndi" and handed him to me, face full of blood. It could have only been a couple of seconds and already his face was honestly covered in blood.
I grabbed him, ran into the bathroom, grabbed a towel and applied pressure right away. At the same time I told Brandon to call for help, to see if there was something more we could do. As Brandon was on the phone I realized the blood was already soaking through the doubled up towel. I told Brandon, "We're going to the emergency room, let's go." So Brandon hung up with the dispatcher (who called the hospital and let them know we were coming) and I put on Cayden's coat, my coat and my shoes and got Cayden in the car. (Remember moments ago I was too tired to get out of bed?)
Brandon followed with my purse and then remembered the oven was on, so he ran back in turned off the oven and we headed to the hospital. Before we were even half way there Cayden was singing E-I-E-I-O with us and telling us which animal to sing next. Granted he wasn't his energetic self, but the crying had almost stopped. I told him we were going to see the Dr and when we pulled into the hospital he said, "Dr. Yeah."
He was an angel for the nurse and Dr. He did everything they asked and only cried a little when they gave him the Novocain before they did the stitches. I happened to have a nuk in my purse so we decided it'd be ok for him to have it considering it was after 8:00pm and he was in pain. We (the nurse, I and Brandon) sang the ABC's while the Dr numbed his forehead and did the stitching and he sat very well through the whole process. (Did I mention I had no make-up, my hair hadn't been combed and I was still in my PJ's?) After that he never cried or anything. I don't think he even knows he has stitches on his head. He's his regular clumsy self again. :)
We are so thankful for how God watches out for us. Cayden wasn't knocked out, it wasn't his eye, or so many other things that could have been worse. I wasn't alone and the oven didn't burn our house down. It's a good reminder that these things happen and we just have to be thankful that God is in control.
I have added the before stitches picture (after we cleaned all the blood off of him) and the after stitches picture (its bruised and puffy b/c of the novocain) It's hard to look at so proceed with caution:

He had 4 stitches, the pictures were taken with Brandon's cell phone, so their not the best quality, but I think that's probably ok.

Oh my goodness!! What a story!! And it was so creepy to be reading something that sounded almost identical to what we had just gone through!! Wow!
The "before" picture of his cut looked SO MUCH like Kayley's before the stitches -- it had that gaping sort of "hole" look that just makes you cringe when you look at it. The only difference is that Kayley's was more in the center of her forehead.
Corners are dangerous! Can you believe it bled as much as it did? That's what really shocked me -- all the blood. I've since been told that head wounds REALLY bleed. Maybe if I had known that, I wouldn't have panicked as much as I did. Anyway, what a scary thing to go through but I'm glad our munchkins are okay! They sure do snap back quickly -- funny that they both were singing and laughing not too long after their injuries. :) Hope Cayden heals fast!
Oh, poor little thing. I hope he is doing OK. I know how it is when our babes get hurt. Bryce ran into a cast iron lantern hanging outside, and his little head bleed for a long time, thankfully didn't need stitches. Definately very scary. Take care!
Thanks Lesley, he's his normal self already! It was wierd reading your story too:) The thing is, our dresser has rounded corners where he hit, we can't believe it caused that much drama. Do you have carpet in your livingroom? It took us awhile, but we got all the blood out of the carpet, it was everywhere!
That's great that he's back to normal now -- so is Kayley and it's like she doesn't even know she has stitches in her head (which is a good thing, or she'd probably be pulling at them)
When does Cayden get his stitches out? We go in Friday to get Kayley's removed.
We do have carpet in our living room but the corner that Kayley hit was between the living room and entry way which has tiled floor and since she walked into the kitchen right away, the blood trail was only on hard flooring, thankfully!
The main thing that made me feel better was just washing the blood out of her hair but we had to wait 24 hours to do that since she couldn't get her head wet for that long.
Amazing that the rounded corners on your dresser caused that much damage!
I'm glad all the drama is over and I'm praying we can avoid any more situations like this in the future!! :)
Cayden gets his stitches out on Friday too, when did Kayley get hurt? It's hard not to jump at every bump now isn't it?
I had a forehead injury with about 6 stitches when I was a kid (ran into a shopping cart apparently!) and I turned out ok :) That is amazing how much energy you had (adrenaline!) when you needed it... Hope he heals well!
Our poor little munchkin. I think its a good thing that Grandma wasn't there to see it. I probably would have been crying worse than him! Give him a kiss for me:)
