Check This Out!

I cleaned Cayden's playroom the other day and he rediscovered his camera. All day he's been covering one eye (so he can see the pictures through the peephole) and saying, "hey check this out"

(Oh and he got the bump goofing around in his bed. He was supposed to be napping, but kept getting out and running around. I guess at one point he fell on the bed rail b/c I heard a thump and then a scream and he was left with the pretty purple bump...again)

Simple Simple

Cayden is very understanding and supportive of my doing Tastefully Simple. He always tries to help me however he can and will tell me to make lots of money when I leave for a party. He loves the Strawberry Sundae Chiller and tries to get me to make it whenever he can. He just can't say Tastefully Simple. I wanted to capture it on camera because one of these days he'll say it perfectly. It's amazing how quickly they change and learn!

He's just full of it lately...

Me: Cayden I want you to go in and take a nap, I'm not going to lay with you because you did not obey mommy and you got out of bed.
Cayden: Ok, mommy, I will obey.
Me: No, you didn't obey, I already asked you and you didn't obey.
Cayden: Ask me again mommy, ask me again and I will obey.

(On Monday)
Cayden: We're going home to eat cookies!
Me: No, we're going to eat donuts.
Cayden: (in a sing songy voice) Oh, I said the wrong word, I said the wrong word. I will remember, I will remember. I didn't know that word.

A few more things

This morning Brandon asked Cayden if he had a good nights sleep and he said, "yes, I snored."

A couple more things I remembered:

Cayden has been having difficulty going to bed when we say at night. I've caught him laying on the floor looking out his door and when we get up he takes off to his bed. What memories that brings up for me! Cody and I did that quite often when we were younger. It's wierd for me because I remember being in Cayden's shoes, just having fun. Then I realize I'm the parent so I have to make him get to bed, then at the same time I think, "wow, is that what my parents were like too? Were they really not bad guys and just trying to be parents? Did they really laugh when we couldn't see, is it true they weren't really stoic all the time, just in front of us?" Wow I'm learning a lot about my parents. I feel old.

Also, that same night, I was laying on the couch towards the tv resting when I heard cayden get near the door, without moving I yelled, "get into bed Cayden" and I heard his little feet run and jump into bed. Then I laughed and told Brandon, "this is one of those moments when Cayden's going to think his mom has eyes in the back of her head" Again, I feel old.

As I'm writing this my son is pooping in his diaper, I told him he should be going on the potty chair so he could get a treat, his response: Shh mommy, shhh (I guess he needs it quiet, he usually tells us to go away or look away, now we have to be quiet too)

Last night when Cayden didn't want to go to bed he asked if he could stay up just a little bit longer then he took my head in his hands making it shake up and down and said, "say yes, mommy, say yes"

He can count to 6 in spanish and was saying Kmart Smart over and over today, I think there are too many Kmart commericals in between Dora episodes:)

This morning while changing his diaper, Cayden and I had this conversation:

"Cayden how long have you been up"
"Um, let me check my watch...5 inches... no 6 inches"

Pumpkin Patch

There was a beautiful Sunday in October that a local pumpkin patch was open. So Myself, Cayden, Grandma Pam and Grandma Peggy went to enjoy the day. We met up with Kristin and the kids and had a great time. Cayden got to go through a corn maze, go on a hay ride, a barrel ride with his buddy Noah and throw pumpkin chunks referred to as pumpkin chunkin'.

Cayden the Firefighter

A few weeks ago the fire dept had an open house. We took Cayden and he got to meet Smokey the Bear, spray a fire hose, sit in the front seat of the fire truck and honk the horn.

Shoes

Cayden loves shoes just like his uncle Cody... ok maybe not just like his uncle Cody. ( I don't think Cody does heels)

Buddies

I was in the church library looking for a book on Sunday and my mom started reading to Cayden. Noah walked over to get in on the story too and I noticed they were holding hands. They are so sweet.

Potty Update

I had to leave for a week for a funeral and Brandon stayed back with Cayden. They were both sick the whole time I was gone and it was so good to be home again! Before I had left I'd been working with Cayden on wearing underwear. Brandon had enough on his plate so it was diapers the whole time I was gone. When I got back though we went full force and Cayden is doing really well. He still doesn't want to go big potty on the toilet, (I didn't want to do cloth diapers and I'm reminded everyday why that was!) but he's doing really well with staying dry all day. I have a few packs of pull ups left from when I did all my awesome coupon shopping and I'm hoping to have him potty trained before we run out. I can't imagine paying full price for a pack of diapers! :)

I know this type of post bores some readers, but I'm not doing a traditional baby book and this at least helps me record those important milestones:)

The AMEN ABC Song

I usually sing the ABC's while I'm brushing Cayden's teeth so he knows how long he has to sit still. Sometimes I sing a different version, that goes something like this:

ABCDEFG Jesus died for you and me, HIJKLMN Jesus died for sinful men AMEN!, OPQRSTU I believe God's word is true, V and W God has promised you, XYZ a home eternally.

It's been years since I've sang it, so it might not be right, but I figure it's close enough. Anyway...

After I sang it today I told Cayden that if he loves Jesus he can live with him in heaven forever and ever, his response--OK, but then I won't live with you anymore.

I explained that mommy and daddy and grandma and grandpa would all be in heaven one day. There's a lot more to it, I know, but I figured we'd take it a step at a time as opportunities presented themselves.

Defiance already?

Sometime ago after I had kissed Cayden he wiped my kisses off. It became a bit of a joke for him that he would wipe off our kisses, so Brandon and I would kiss him on the back so he couldn't wipe it off and that would end "the game." He'd always say, in a sing-songy voice: "I wiped your kisses off..."

Well....

Today he was goofing around instead of taking his nap and I spanked him and he said, in a very defiant way: "I wiped your spank off."

Please, don't let it be starting already!!
